ABOUT ME
Hi my name is Bjork Clarke. I am a Black freelance illustrator living in Brooklyn, New York. I am a recent art school graduate currently focusing on the development of my company Bjork Illustrations and BJORK. As an illustrator I feel motivated by various forms of art making. Due to that love of art making I have been expanding my art processes. Along with creating 2D and digital prints for companies and publications, I'm currently designing illustrative fruit jewelry as well as creating a tee shirt, hoodie and tote bag line.
I am originally from South Florida but currently reside in New York City. After graduating from The New School in May of 2019, I took on jobs as the came and went. Fast forward a year, amidst the current state of the global society, allowed me time to think about my true desires as a CREATIVE.
As I navigated through four years of art school, I started to analyze my mental health parallel to life as an emerging adult, artist, and black woman in New York City.
My artwork focuses on the mental well-being of black and brown people. I'm bringing to light the issues of mental health, illness and transition in the black community in a way that is understandable among any race, religion, and state of mental well-being. I use my experiences of life and the constant understanding of my mental health as a way to guide me through my art. With my work, I want to show the parallels of mental illness and life in the shadows as how I live my life. Though my work is colorful — and truly represents my personality outwardly, the context and meaning represents me inwardly.
With the constant development and understanding of myself, my artwork will continue on the same journey. It will change form when I do. It will continue to be the constant expression of me.
I look forward to working with you in the future.
With Love,
Bjork ♡︎
